The pharaoh Tutankhamun, also known as King Tut, is perhaps the best-known ruler in ancient Egyptian history. King Tut, made infamous by the curse that supposedly plagues his tomb, held the throne from about the age of 9 until his death a decade later around 1323 B.C.E. And while much has been written about the royal youth, his actual appearance is still a matter of debate. For decades, scientists have tried to create realistic depictions of the young king’s face. The latest version was released May 2023.
